Two of my favorite things about photographing weddings are being able to love on & bless my clients with lifelong memories throughout the process, and being able to observe their traditions and how they celebrate with their families and friends. Each wedding is so unique and special to the couple, and it’s an honor to be the one to be able to capture all of the moments that I know they’ll want to remember, and to hear their favorite parts of the day afterward. Shannon & Jason’s wedding was no exception, and I’m excited to share their testimonial with you!

Part 1: The Details

Tell me about your wedding day ensemble.

I bought my dress 3 weeks before the wedding!!!!! The people at Julian Gold are rock stars!!!! Shout out to Maria and their alterations person Debby Gomez.

Jason’s suit had a galactic/celestial-themed interior, and our initials and the wedding date embroidered inside. I bought him monogrammed cuff links and his velvet shoes, and added my grandfather’s cuff links to my bouquet.

I especially love a wedding with cultural traditions interwined…

What flavor was your cake? How did you decide on a design for it?

Chocolate marble – it’s my favorite thing. With chocolate espresso icing. Wish I had eaten more lol!

Part 2: The Day

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

Shannon: Singing my original song to my groom.
Jason: The first look and being sung to by Shannon. Both: Dancing our asses off!!!!

Were there any special wedding day gifts exchanged?

Yes, Jason gave me a black diamond band. He also gave me 3 notes that had been written over the last two years with the intention of giving them to me on our wedding day…insane
I have him monogrammed cuff links.

What was your inspiration for your theme/decor/colors?

I wanted everything to be bold, beautiful, romantic and classy. I love black and white with pops of color and really cared about lighting and the whole flow.

Were you nervous? If so, how did you overcome the nerves?

I had moments of just excitement and so much adrenaline. A lot of deep breaths. Jason wasn’t nervous at all…

The black and white velvet linens were my fave and the flowers were exceptional. Never seen a more beautiful room. The DJ booth was insane and exactly what we envisioned and tied it all together. The room felt intimate even though it was holding like 270 guests!!! That’s what we wanted.

What song did you use for your first dance?

Two of Us On The Run: Lucius
Last dance: after bye bye bye…Oh What A World : Kacey Musgraves

Did you actually eat anything at your reception? Did you have time?

We didn’t really eat, but what we did was awesome – lamb chops, bolognese.
The highlight was the incredible cake and Chloe’s Coffee Bar. Riser Coffee created coffee drinks with our dog’s face imprinted on the drink!!!!!! Like as the foam…

What was the biggest surprise of the day?

Jason: Shannon’s song, it blew me away.
Shannon: Two of my best friends and bridesmaids threw me an incredible brunch the morning of – Sip Sip Hooray, it was called!! It was amazing and I didn’t know any details but it was perfection. Incredible balloons.
Also Jason’s gifts to me…

Part 3: Post Day

Any advice for other couples for either on the wedding day or planning?

Don’t sweat the small stuff, communicate a LOT…your fears will not come true on the day of…it’ll be you and your person operating as your most authentic selves and it’s the greatest day ever. Thank your parents a ton. Take a honeymoon right after!!!

What was your favorite thing about working with Kelly Hornberger Photography?

I had full confidence that Kelly would capture all the best and most intimate moments. Y’all understood our vision immediately. Loved having your husband there too. He rocks and adds an amazingly chill element!!

I am so honored that Jason & Shannon chose me to photograph their journey to marriage, and knowing that I was able to capture all the most special moments of their wedding day means everything! I’m excited to chat with them again soon and hear how newlywed life is going!
