let's talk – the ring –

our thoughts

back to blog

Let’s talk engagement rings! It turns out there is a lot to say on the subject. I (Callie) used to think it was as simple as a man buying a ring for the girl he wanted to marry, but now I know that is not always the case.

Even at Kelly Hornberger Phototgraphy, we span the spectrum on opinions about engagement rings…

Kelly is all about the surprise! She totally let her man take the reigns on picking a ring out.

Claire is more in the middle of us three. She went shopping with her man but then left it to him to pick out “the one!”

Then there is my parents – my dad didn’t even have a ring when he proposed to my mom! And she still said yes! They went shopping for a ring together soon after.

For better or worse, I am at the other end of the spectrum. While it sounds wonderful to be totally surprised, for me it’s just not realistic. I know how picky I am, so I definitely want to go shopping with my man to pick out the ring I’ll wear for the rest of my life! The surprise will be for how he proposes!

What about you?! Will you give hints to about rings you like (i.e. dog-eared magazines, hints via friends)? Or do you want to go shopping for rings together? Or are you excited to be completely surprised? If you’re married, how did this happen for you? If you’re a guy, how would you do it/or how did you do it? We’d love to hear what you think!

ah hem, let me interject:
Kelly here:

Well surprise he did!  At 5am this morning we (Claire and I) got to see the sweet surprise from Paul to Callie as he arrived in Napa to take her on some adventures in town and is probably proposing as we speak.  More to come soon on “the ring”…oh yes, I know you all are DYING to know!!

So, the truth is…it really doesn’t matter how you get there.  All that really matters is in the end you now get to spend the rest of your life with your best friend!
Woohoo for Callie + Paul!!
