Some of Ali & Jason’s memories from the day:
Q. What was your favorite part about the wedding?
A. Ali: I loved seeing Jay’s reaction to me walking down the aisle to him. I was tearful and my lips waere quivering, but when I got to him I was all smiles and laughter.
Jay: The most amazing moment for me was seeing Ali for the first time as she walked down the aisle toward me. She was glowing, and in that instant I felt all the nerves leave me… I was just so glad to see her. She looked beautiful and radiant.
Jay/Ali: We loved the Chinese lion performers. It was a special surprise for our guests.
Q. What was one quirky or crazy thing that happened on your wedding day?
A. Ali: Getting ready on my wedding day, everything was calm. Things were going smoothly, my girls were getting their hair and makeup done. Two hours before we were scheduled to leave, the toilet in the bridal suite started overflowing. It seemed like things turned 180 degrees and chaos overcame the suite. Luckily we were able to mollify the situation by having our seven groomsmen carry all my things to Jay’s suite where we would later spend our wedding night.
Jay: We had ordered some breakfast tacos for our folks to munch on during the day. My instructions to them were simple: “give us an assortment of all your tacos, except for bean and cheese.”
It seemed simple to me… after all, who wants a plain bean and cheese taco anyway? That’s just nasty.
So we go get the tacos and return to the hotel, and what do we find? ONLY Bean and cheese tacos! Two dozen bean and cheese tacos! I have to wonder if that played a role in the Bridesmaids bathroom debacle!
Q. What was the most special moment on your wedding day?
A. two of us thinking, “Did this just really happen!! We are really married! I am MRS. Brummerhop!” I showed Jay the special engraving on the inside of his new wedding band, “LUCKY” with a heart replacing the “U.” It has so many meanings for us. One of them is a reminder of how lucky we are to have one another. Secondly, Jay’s Poppa’s nickname was “Lucky,” and we know he was up above looking down at us at that very moment with Nana by his side.
Jay: Other than seeing Ali walk down the aisle and taking my hands. Ali and I having our little alone picture time in the photobooth at the end of the night when everyone was gone. Going to the hotel with special surprises such as flowers on the bed and champagne. Finally getting a bite to eat at the end of the night in our hotel room was nice as well.
Q. Did you do anything yourself?
A. Ali: We tried our best to make our wedding reflect us. We had antlers brought in from Jay’s South Texas ranch. He shot and collected the pink shot gun shells for the name cards. My mother designed and created the bridesmaids’ and flower girl’s pearl bracelets and necklaces. Jay’s wedding gift to me were my new custom boots with my new initials stitched into the leather. We were able to display them as decoration.
Jay: I wrote my vows and gave Ali two cards. I know her so well that I knew she would cry so I gave her one sincere card to make her cry, but I also knew that she had to get back in “the zone” for the ceremony so I gave her one goofy card to make her laugh. Seeing her both crying and laughing as she read each card from Kelly’s pictures are among my favorite photos of her that day!
Q. Where will you be as a couple in five years? Hopes, dreams, kids, etc.?
A. Ali: I hope that we will continue to appreciate one another everyday. We will still remember how “lucky” we are, and bring out the best in each other. We have always supported each other in our dreams, hence why we are currently apart in two different states. We will be reunited after I complete dental school and that time will be our honeymoon period. We will have our two dogs, a Golden Retriever and a Rhodesian Ridgeback. After we settle in, we will begin our family.
Jay: We will be in Houston with Ali practicing dentistry, and no longer going to bed looking at each other through iPad Facetime! Also, by that time there’s a good chance I’ll be taking our first infant on his or her first hunting trip! And keeping Ali pregnant with the next batch!
Q. What do you look forward to most about being married?
A. Ali: Not many men would marry someone who they know will be away from them. Jay has definitely proved his love and support of all my dreams and passions. Currently, our situation is not ideal, but we keep in mind that our time apart is temporary. I cherish spending the rest of my life with a man I adore and admire. I know he will make a good father with all his core values. We have always been opposites and complement each other. His spontaneity balances my stubborn rationality. Our kids will be an amazing hybrid of the two of us.
Jay: I am looking forward to getting Ali through school, bringing her home to Houston, and helping her navigate her way through her first practice and eventually starting a practice of her own. I’m looking forward to starting our family, and teaching our kids our common values and sharing new experiences with each other and with our family. Also… it will be nice to get a few dogs once we are actually able to be together and move to a home with an appropriate sized yard.
