Texas-Style Wedding at Armadillo Palace

Since most of their guests were from out of town and had never been to Houston, Sarah and Michael decided to lean into a Texas theme for their wedding. Working with Holloway Events, they chose decor and colors inspired by “Texas spring” and the bluebonnets we so love to see along the highways.

They even incorporated bluebonnets in their stationery, and Sarah’s bridesmaids wore blue dresses. They also leaned into the theme by getting a custom armadillo drawn for their wedding invitations that were also used on koozies that were given out at the reception.

Sarah’s Gown

Sarah told us she took her grandmother’s wedding ring for her own, and loves that she thinks of her grandmother now every time she looks at it!

She also said that, “The dress was definitely my favorite part of the ensemble. I loved the fit and pattern of the dress, and it was so comfortable to dance in that I kept it on all night (including to the afterparty at a dive bar!). I ended up changing my shoes at the reception into some cream Tecovas, which added a fun Texas flair and fit our theme.”

She paired the dress with Stuart Weitzman pumps, and earrings that Michael gave her to wear for their wedding day, and the result was perfection!

Reception at Armadillo Palace

Some of Sarah’s favorite details included the reception space at Armadillo Palace!  She said, “I loved the feel of our venue and how it was a good mix of fun and elevated. We served margaritas and Tex Mex appetizers, and made koozies with a custom armadillo on them.”

Another detail she especially loved was the invitation suite – complete with a custom-drawn armadillo – because her aunt designed them, and they worked on them together.

The couple opted for individual desserts, to include mini pecan pies, mini tres leches cakes, and mini Texas sheet cakes, rather than traditional cake.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Sarah & Michael’s advice to currently-engaged couples is to not “sweat the small stuff, it will all come together in the end and those little details you were so worried about won’t even matter!”

We second that advice, and are so thankful we got to be part of this couple’s day, treating their loved ones to a relaxed-yet-upscale, uniquely Texas celebration!

Kind Words for KH Collective

“They are so personable and easy to work with. They are great at finding unique shots that we would have never considered – Glenna got some really nice pictures of us in the church with the stained glass that I never would have thought about taking and we love them. They also go with the flow super easily and can adapt to any situation, making it super stress free for us. We could just enjoy the day and not worry about anything!”
