A Blissful Wedding Weekend at February Point, Exuma, Bahamas

Haley & Kyle

In Love in February Point, Exuma, Bahamas

Haley and Kyle are the sister and (now) brother-in-law of another one of our sweet KHP clients, Claire & Will, and we absolutely fell in love with their sweet family when we worked with them the first time.  So when Haley and Kyle asked us to come to their dream destination and capture their wedding as well, there was no other answer but a resounding “YES!”.

Excited to start their lives together in Exuma, Bahamas, where Haley’s family has a home and has enjoyed coming for years, this sweet bride looked beyond a typical beach wedding and designed a celebration where class, sophistication, joyful tropical details, and local tradition all melded together perfectly.

Design & Details

Haley said that “Exuma’s beauty speaks for itself, and I didn’t want to attempt to overdo anything on the decor. We went with greenery and flowers native to Exuma (Bougainvillea specifically), and added touches of “sea life” – think conch shells, starfish, etc. I stuck to colors found around the island – blues, pinks, greens and neutrals – so that it would blend seamlessly. Bridesmaids all wore sunset colors, my favorite time of day down there. And the groomsmen went neutral so Kyle’s blue suit stood out!

There were several favorite details!  We used a starfish as our motif for the weekend, which was a nod to the abundance of them in Exuma and also they symbolize renewal, which is how it feels starting this new life with each other! I also loved that we really focused on music. Everyone was on the dance floor all night and didnt want to leave. Our goal for the weekend was to make it a party, and I think we succeeded!”

The Dress

This sweet bride got her wedding gown from a boutique in Darien, CT during a Mira Zwillinger trunk show. She knew she wanted a Mira dress, and knew right away when she put it on that it was the one! For her second look, she changed into her mom’s wedding dress that she had altered into a party piece. It was the perfect nod to her mom and such a special thing for her. She kept jewelry light aside from simple pearl and gold drop earrings that her mom gave to her, and then added her mom’s pearl necklace for her second look! Kyle’s blue linen suit was her something blue.

The Ceremony

St. Andrew’s Anglican Church is a beautiful and well-known, historic church on the island of Exuma, and couldn’t have been a better setting for a wedding ceremony.  The Bougainvillea, gorgeous stained glass, and stunning lighting gave us so many fabulous opportunities for unforgettable photos.

The Reception

As soon as the ceremony was over, the party started at February Point and went well into the night.  We may have been working, but even we had a blast with this group as they danced the night away beside the beach under Bahamian stars, twinkly lights, and tiki torches.  They had traditional Bahamian rum cake and didn’t do a cake cutting, as it felt a little too formal, so had it sliced and available for guests instead.  Then they topped the night off with a fully-dressed pool party, and the newly-married couple was played out by an incredible Junkanoo band!

Kind Words for KHP

“We couldn’t pick just one favorite thing about working with Kelly Hornberger Photography. Kelly and her team were truly better than we could have imagined and felt like part of the family! Their energy is infectious always, and their creativity and talent are unmatched. They are also incredibly efficient, which was super important to us. We could not recommend them more.

When we look at the photos and videos we genuinely get emotional because it is so special to look back and relive everything. You all effortlessly capture the most important moments. We will be looking at all the photos for years and years to come!!!”
