Sarah & Huynh -i do, i do-

kelly hornberger wedding

back to blog

A boy.  A girl.  A day to remember.

The day started off at the local beauty parlor for Sarah amongst her adorable sister’s, Huynh’s sister’s, mom’s, aunt’s and squealing neices.

The phone did not stop ringing throughout the AM for Huynh while at the Onmi hanging out with his boys.

All was good.  All was right.

Sarah finished getting ready at the Wynden while her handsome groom awaited to see her.

The first look was so cute.  Neither the bride or groom could stop smiling…I think Huyhn even skipped a few steps.

Sarah looked STUNNING!  Huyhn was FLOORED.  They embraced, shed a couple tears and then he pulled out the beautiful ring he surprised her with.  Purple…her favorite.

From that moment on all the world was right.  They tied the knot under the big oak tree and gazebo decorated with colorful streamers and danced the night away in grand style.

Claire and I had a BLAST getting to spend the day with these two.  Thank you both for being so awesome and for making our jobs sooooo much easier with your style, grace and gentlemanly gestures.

Some of Sarah & Huynh’s memories from the day:
Q. What was your favorite part about the wedding?

A. HUYNH: I had a couple of brief moments that are so clear – when our wedding planner asked the guys to line up for the ceremony and all of the stress left my shoulders; of course, seeing Sarah and her dad walking down the aisle was a big one.

SARAH: A crazy amount of little things – I loved that our ring bearer was so excited about his job that once the ceremony was over, he fell fast asleep; I loved Huynh’s best man’s toast; I loved dancing the Cupid Shuffle with my flower girls. Most importantly, the amount of love and joy in the room was palpable and we were just so humbled that all of these dear friends and family came to Houston to celebrate us. We could not be more blessed!

Q. What was one quirky or crazy thing that happened on your wedding day?

A. SARAH: The quirky funny thing that I will never forget happened right after the bouquet toss. Before Amanda, who caught the bouquet, had even a chance to walk across the dance floor to take a picture with me, my new brother-in-law stepped right up to her and introduced himself as “Huynh’s single brother”. Even now, I still laugh it.

HUYNH: The kids brought the dance party! Our cousins, nieces, nephews, and friend’s cute kids sure do know how to bust a move. I think they stole the show.

Q. What was the most special moment on your wedding day?

A. Huynh and I had agreed to no gifts but, of course, he broke his own rule and gave me a stunning amethyst ring. My family has heirlooms that we all enjoy – the sixpence in my shoe was also in my mom’s and sister’s shoes on their wedding days and then, of course, my Nana’s aquamarine ring that we all wear on special occasions – so when Huynh handed me the amethyst ring, he explained that he wanted this ring to be the heirloom for our family. Cue happy tears (and coincidentally, the only time I cried all day!).

Q.  Did you do anything yourself?

A. The big thing were the centerpieces – Huynh worked on melting the wax on the wine bottles and even branded the wood pieces for weeks on end. Then, with the help of our rock star florist, they came together beautifully.

Little things included the backdrop, the photobooth props (I love me some two dimensional props!), and the air plants that were hung beside aisle. We also had a hand in designing the paper goods – such as the menu, ad libs, program, and every sign that went in a frame around the reception. We actually just spent the other evening re-reading the ad libs and, I must say, we have hilarious friends.

Lastly, we made out of town bags for all the guests staying in the hotel – we hand stamped the bag as well as the envelope and included Huynh’s favorite road trip food (sunflower seeds) along with my favorite candy (sour patch kids) that each had a sticker on them with an explanation. We spent a lot of time making these bags as special and unique as possible for our guests who were so generous to come in from out of town and I was so happy with how they turned out!

A little something that we did not DIY but that I absolutely loved were the origami hearts that we bought off of Etsy that acted as a color guide to the cupcake flavors. It turned out better than expected!

Q.  Any special elements you would like to talk about?

A. It was very surreal – the closest to out of body that I think I have ever experienced. I have a terrible memory but somehow, I am able to remember every moment with such a clarity that it feels like it happened yesterday. We honestly loved it all – starting from the rehearsal dinner at Nom Nom Noodles and ending with a dance party at the Black Swan. I, for one, would have not changed one second.

Q. Q. What do you look forward to most about being married?

A. SARAH: I was most excited about expanding my family ten-fold so, with that, comes the excitement of holidays spent with the Phams and spending Miller holidays with my hubs! I also love calling Huynh my husband, I love hearing him call me his wife, and there seriously is nothing sexier than your husband wearing his wedding band.

HUYNH: I’m looking forward to seeing my wife pregnant and looking beautiful; that moment when our family of two becomes a family of three and creating those traditions and memories together – from road trips to first days of school. Then, of course, growing old together with the hottest woman I know.

Q. Where do you hope you will you be as a couple in five years?

A. God willing, our family of two will become a family of three or four! But, whatever our future has in store, I know that we will be right with each other to offer support and a shoulder.
