“The fact is that relatively few photographers ever master their medium. Instead they allow the medium to master them and go on an endless squirrel cage chase from new lens to new paper to new developer to new gadget, never staying with one piece of equipment, long enough to learn its full capacities, becoming lost in maze of technical information that is of little or no use since they don’t know what to do with it.” –Edward Weston

One Model and One Light at Zack Arias OneLight Workshop

One Model and One Light at Zack Arias OneLight Workshop

Hello it’s me Claire. Last week I was fortunate enough to go to the OneLight Workshop taught by Zack Arias in my home state of Colorado. I was really intimidated to be in this fancy studio with tons of equipment but as he started the class with the quote above I knew I was in the right place, even if I was freezing in the 40 degree weather.

I’ve always been told  I am such a jack of all traits, but is that really a good thing? At the end of the day I am a master of none. Zack’s message was to simply master the equipment and craft before overwhelming yourself with yet another piece of equipment, and to put your focus where is matters most. The truth is I know I only have this one life and I want to make every last second count but to do that I need to master one thing at a time.

I highly encourage Zach’s workshop if you are a budding photographer or if you are a seasoned photog looking for an expensive play day. You will pick up some lighting basics and…you never know, you might walk away with a life lesson.

So for now, it’s just my one focus on my one camera and my one light until I become one lighting master.

I will keep y’all posted on my progress! That’s right, I will be back from time to time. I look forward to guest blogging here and walking through this crazy-fun overwhelming experience with you through words and pictures. So ’til next time…
