Bailey & Tanner
Beneath a ceiling of Japanese paper cranes, Bailey and Tanner got married in Houston at the home of the bride’s parents. They wanted to create a wedding day unlike anything they’ve seen before and give their guests more than a party- an entire experience. They certainly delivered in every way!
Modern Houston Wedding at Private Home
The day of Bailey and Tanner’s wedding was a rainy February day in Houston, so we fully utilized all the fun and unique spaces inside her parent’s house. Their first look was one of Bailey’s favorite parts of their day, which they did in a glass window-lined hallway. Instead of saying personal vows at the ceremony, they privately exchanged vows right after their first look.
Japanese Wedding Details
There were several undertones of the bride’s Japanese heritage throughout the day. The 1,000 hand folded paper cranes hanging above the aisle were a detail near and dear to the bride. Bailey is half Japanese and her maiden last name, Tsuru, means “crane” in Japanese.
Bailey and Tanner went with a black and white color theme because they knew it would bring to life the modern, yet classic wedding they were going for. The wedding party wore black bridesmaids dresses and black suits for a clean look! Bailey wanted to make a high impact with her florals and chose baby’s breath to fill the ceremony and reception space.
Black & White Wedding Reception
Sushi rolls and the martini bar were a hit with their guests at cocktail hour! Sushi is the couple’s favorite date night food and their martini bar was styled after their favorite New York martini bar, The Mark Hotel. The oysters were one detail Tanner had insisted they would have at their wedding for years prior after having them at Bailey’s sister’s wedding! Oyster XO delivered and throughout the cocktail hour they shucked oysters for guests! Bailey and Tanner were able to hide away for a bit during cocktail hour to soak in that after 9 years of being together they were now husband and wife!
When it was time for the reception, they danced across a black and white checked dance floor and put their dance lessons to use! After the reception formalities, Bailey changed into her reception jumpsuit custom-made by the wonderful David Peck! Bailey was ready to dance the night away and this jumpsuit gave her the freedom to do so! At the end of the night they shared a private last dance before exiting beneath a shower of confetti thrown by guests. The bride’s Dad collects vintage cars, so they sped off in a vintage Jaguar!
The KHP Experience
Bailey and Tanner had the most thoughtful words to say about their favorite thing about working with me:
“The pure joy Kelly gets from what she does! She is so happy and willing to go the extra mile. Kelly is warm and welcoming, and wants to make you as comfortable as possible. She will also direct you, so you do not have to think of “modeling”. She was goofy and professional at the same time. She makes you want to be her best friend!”
Bailey and Tanner’s wedding day was unlike any other wedding I’ve photographed, but what I loved most was spending the day with these two and capturing the happiness they radiated!
