One of my favorite parts of shooting a wedding is knowing that I’m doing what I love, as well as working to create lasting memories for my couples. I love asking post wedding questions, and learning their favorite parts of the day! Nothing is better than knowing that I helped contribute to the magic that is someone’s wedding day and helping them to have the best possible experience. I’ve put together a wedding day testimonial for Lauren and Patrick, to showcase the best parts of their big day!
PART 1: The Details
Tell me about your wedding day ensemble.
My gown was Winnie Couture, I found it on the very first day that I went dress shopping. At first I wasn’t looking for that particular style but when I put it on I knew it was the one! It’s a convertible gown so the top piece with the cap sleeves were perfect for our church ceremony but it was removable to make it strapless for the reception.
I wore my grandmothers diamond and sapphire bracelet as part of my something borrowed and something blue . It was the last present my grandfather ever gave her before he passed, making it perfect for the occasion not only because of its sentimental value but also because it matched my sapphire and diamond engagement ring. I also wore my double strand pearl necklace for the reception when the top part of my dress came off. My parents gave me that necklace when I turned 16. Patrick gave me a pearl bracelet from Tiffany & Co as a wedding gift. I wasn’t supposed to wear it for the ceremony but I couldn’t resist!
Shoes were Badgley Mischka flats. Veil was handmade by my mother. We could never find anything that fit just right, I wanted a cathedral length veil that was simple with a decorative comb. Nothing seemed to fit with my dress, so finally my mother offered to give it a shot. It came out perfect! I had a blusher for the ceremony that I loved, it felt so traditional, and it fell so soft and simple afterward. The comb she also put together using materials we found at High Fashion Fabrics.
What were your favorite details? What made you think of them?
One of my favorite details was our dance floor. We had a black and white dance floor brought in, it tied the whole room together! I had seen it in photos and loved it but my parents weren’t convinced… when we took a tour of Houston Country Club they had it out from a previous event and my dad agreed it looked amazing! It made the whole room pop.
What flavor was your cake? How did you decide on a design for it?
We had both a brides and grooms cake. Brides cake was tradition white, 4 layers, with a raspberry center and butter-cream icing. 4 tiers with flowers as decoration.
Patrick’s cake was a little different. He had a red velvet cake with buttercream icing in the shape of a shark! Probably one of the most impressive cakes I have ever seen and perfect for Patrick’s personality and love of all this fishing and sharks.
PART 2: The Day
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
I have 2 favorite parts of the day.
The first was walking down the aisle to see my husband for the first time. We didn’t do a first look because we wanted that moment to be special… and it sure was! Patrick is not often emotional but seeing his love from me in his eyes during that moment was the most amazing feeling.
The second was our final dance! We had a confetti cannon for the event and I was obsessed. They left a little extra to go off during our dance, song – Firestone by Kygo, we are both obsessed with Kygo, and it felt so magical to be surrounded by friends and family in that moment.
Were you nervous? If so, how did you overcome the nerves?
Yes and no! The night before I had trouble sleeping because I was nervous and excited. I knew the day would be great, I trusted my vendors and the club was the perfect setting, I wasn’t nervous about marrying the love of my life, I was nervous about everything coming to an end!
We had spent so much time and energy organizing the wedding and talking about it, I didn’t want the day to go by quickly. After it was over I went through a period of sadness wanting to relive that day over and over again!
PART 3: Post Day
Any advice for other couples for either on the wedding day or planning?
Trust your vendors, they have done this so many times, they know what works best.
What was your favorite thing about working with me?
Your energy! I always felt better when you were around. Your positive energy and excitement for the day made me even more excited.
I love each and every one of my clients, and love to watch their love grow beyond their big day, which is why I work hard to stay in touch and check in with them from time to time! It’s such a special feeling knowing your couples feel confident putting their trust in you. I love knowing that there’s a reason they chose me to capture their wedding day, which is sure to be one of the best days of their lives!
